Matzumi - Musical Diary of My Life

Interview mit Matzumi
Polish and English version below

Es gab diverse Projekte, Just for fun - Projekte.

Meine Symphony-Tour. Mal sehen, was sich umsetzen lässt.

M.: You are welcome and thank you so much for your kind words and all your wishes.

Kolejna z moich  podróżny w świat muzyki to podróż prawdziwie magiczna… Matzumi… Niemburg … Niemcy…

Zawsze żyłam w swoim własnym świecie  i znalazł  on swoje odbicie w mojej muzyce.

„Ad infinitium” „In mutatio tempora” „Bravura Apasionada”… to kolejne z Twoich płyt….

To były pojedyncze utwory , nigdy całe albumy.

Współpraca z  z Nattefrost zaowocowała  wydaniem albumu "From distant times".

Gra on na flecie w mojej symfonii.

Moje Symfoniczne Tourne. Zobaczymy, na ile będzie to możliwe. Poprzedzi ono publikację  mojego największego i najważniejszego projektu muzycznego "Symphonie of Silence and Humility", nad którym pracowałam ponad dwa lata.

"Matzumi Live" w Polsce :-)

Next of my journeys into music world is real magical travel ... We're staying in  the world  of electronic music... but we are looking at it from completely different direction.... beautiful... sensual... sensitive...womanly.... Matzumi... Nienburg.... Germany...

A. P-K.:Electronic is rather type of music where men lead out leading way.... I don't want to say... that it  is not music for women.... but in fact only few of them decide for this kind of expression ... Where does  this idea come from? What happend , that you decided for this kind of music?
Matzumi: Well, this was not a conscious decision. It just came that way. I have always been interested in keyboard instruments, whather piano or synthesizer. Previously, as a child, I played music around using different „child“ instruments. These were piano and accordion for children. Those were my early beginnings.
Shortly after the turn,  I come from the former East Germany, I was given my first keyboard. That was a Hohner PSK 15 and the beginning of electronic music, where I have remained until today.
In 2003, I  bought my first synthesizer and then was able to finally realize my musical ideas which I could  never do with all the keyboards that I had gained over the years.

A. P-K.:I read at your home page, that you never  learned singing or playing  instruments... But since you were a small child you tried to play the keyboards...  Where does this passion come from? Do you come from music family, or it is absolutely natural  born talent?

Matzumi : I am not from a family of musicians. Only my grandfather was musical and one of my uncles played some music. Music has always been in my blood. The things which were going on inside me and couldn’t be expressed in words I expressed musically; all the emotion, the experience of life, my world of thoughts and feelings.
I was always a brooding child. I mused about various things, but  without sharing them with someone. I just kept them for myself. I always lived in my own world and I brought all  of this into musical expression. That is why my music sounds just the way it sounds. That has been the passion and inspiration in it.
All I can do today I taught myself during my life. I can not read music or know nothing about music theory. For me it was never a concern. It must have been with me in the cradle  once :-)

A. P-K.: Common reason why an artist creates this and no other kind of music  are  his/her music fascinations from childhood or early youth... Has there been an artist or artists  in your life  whose  creativeness  influences  your own creation.... Where do you take your inspirations from?

Matzumi:: My inspiration was mainly my own life and the experience I have gained. That's why I also call my music  " Musical Diary of My Life ."
My music is just the expression of my personality and reflects a snapshot of my thoughts and feelings .

You cannot reinvent music, so similarities can be seen .One says I sound like Kitaro , another says I sound like Vangelis , and still another says that my singing has similarities with the vocals of Lisa Gerrard .But for a long time I did not know Kitaro or Lisa Gerrard. Only Vangelis has  been the name whose music I have always loved .

I have always liked exceptional music. Music from the charts could impress me rarely or never. It sounds to me all the same .
I remember that as a child , I analyzed the music , listened carefully what was going on when and where. I listened to the

details and was always fascinated when I heard refined and sophisticated compositions. It is almost the same today .

A. P-K.: How  would you  call the kind of music  you create? Have you  found your own final conception of music or are you still  a "seeking artist" ?   Maybe there is something that  you would still  like to try ?

Matzumi: To be honest I never thought what kind of music genre I make. It means it has never been important to me. I do not act according to a plan. I never tell myself: now you are making New Age or orchestral music, pop or anything else. I am not sure myself which genre I belong. I always say that I make electronic-symphonic music. I hope I will still express myself through music, bring my inside out. Everything I make will be another stage of my development. For example I have always dreamed to play with a symphonic orchestra and now I am working to make this dream come true.

I feel I am quite established in my own style and it will just develop no matter which direction I will go.

 A. P-K.: You debuted in 2009 with the EP for Candy Rush- music  "Cryin' Soul" and  the same year you released " Sometimes" for  Wolf Entertainment.... Since that moment your career  has grown exponentially... „Ad infinitium” „In mutatio tempora” „Bravura Apasionada”…  these are your following records... But you create also projects with other artists... Gert Emmens or Nattefrost.... Who else  did you collaborate with ... and who is still in the plan? Are we waiting for some new projects?

Matzumi: That’s right. 2009 was the year I appeared publicaly for the first time under my former label Candy Rush.

A lot has happened since the times of ‘Cryin Soul’ and ‘Sometimes’. Looking back at what has happened I really feel surprised but happy and satisfied as well :) When it comes to serious and formal events I can't believe how good the reception of my music is.

I always liked cooperation with other artists. Even before, when I was anly a profile at music platform I used the name 'Matzumi but it has only the meaning of a stage name to me.

At that time I realized a few projects just for fun. Those were single tracks, never full albums.

I worked on two pieces with Gert M&Ms but due to hard disc failure all the files were lost forever. Only one piece was published as script in MP3 format.

My co-operation with Natterfrost resulted in the album "From Distant Times". Next I asked Frank Dorttike to work with me on "In Mutatio Tenses". He lent his wonderful guitar in one of the songs.

My most recent project with other musicians was published in October 2013 "Bravura Apasionada". I recorded it with Emilsam Velazquez, who has become my very close friend since. I owe him a lot. As well on the soon appearing " Symphony of silence and Humility" on which three other guests appear too, such as Hellmut Wolf from my current label Wolf Entertainment. He plays the flute in my symphony. I must also mention  Sean  O'Brian Smith, a bassist from the USA and Frank Steffen Mueler, a gifted guitarist.

A. P-K.: And what plans does Matzumi have for this year?  I know the nearest future  - the gig in February in Ebersbach. Where and when can we listen to you live more? Maybe you are planning some concerts in Poland?
Matzumi: My wish for this year is a tour across Germany. My Symphonic Tour. We will see what will come out. But the most important project is the release of  "Symphonie of Silence and Humility", on which I worked for two years.

Concerts in Poland are quite high on my wish list. I have wanted to play in Polad for a long time and I am sure it will happen one day. I mean "Matzumi Live" in Poland.

A. P-K.: I hope to see and listen to  you soon... Thank you for  interview... I wish you good luck on the electronic stage and beyond ... and  for your fans unforgettable expirences...

Matzumi: You are welcome and thank you so much for your kind words and all your wishes.
